NWPA CSA Info 2010
The NWPA Growers CSA provides you with fresh, local, organic/naturally-raised produce for 20 weeks. (June 9th-Oct. 20th) We have planned for Wednesday drop-offs from 4:30 - 6:00 pm in Slippery Rock, Grove City and Franklin, and New Castle.
We offer "Full Shares" and "Small Shares", as well as a separate "Egg Share" and a "Chicken Share".
All CSA members will receive the same 5 or 6 "Core" vegetables each week, as well as "Members' Choice" elective items. If your family does not care for a certain item, simply put it in the Exchange Box for someone else to enjoy and choose another item from the box. We think that choice is an important, and often overlooked component of CSA.
How does this work? an example: (and this is just an example, we are not saying that these will be the exact share contents on June 30th)
On Wednesday, June 30th, all members at the Full Share level may receive these Core vegetables:
1 bag lettuce
3/4 lb snow peas
3 small summer squash
1 head broccoli
1 lb rhubarb
1 bunch radishes
1 bunch beets
and also choose 2 of these "Elective" items:
1 bunch carrot
1 bunch scallions
1/2 lb greens
A 'Small Share" is not a "Half-Share", the amount of produce falls somewhere between the 'half' and 'full' amount, being more than Half, but less than Full. We source your produce from as many as ten farms each week, therefore the amount and variety in the share depends upon how many farms are offering which items for any particular week.
ALL CSA members will also have access to our webstore starting 6/04/10 (no additional fees required ) for the purpose of pre-ordering "extra" products to be delivered to the pickup location. "Extras" include meats, cheeses, baked goods, organic grains, honey, fruit, bulk produce, etc.,which must be paid for at time of pickup.
**Please note this important change to our CSA program this year**: Members of each drop-off location will designate 'drivers' to transport all share produce for that location from Slippery Rock to the drop-off site. Members at each drop-off location may be asked to assist with transportation once or twice during the 20-week season. This will not be required for CSA membership, but is definitely a part of the "community spirit" inherent in Community Supported Agriculture. We recognize that many people have work obligations that make it impossible for them to help with transportation. No problem! you are welcome in our CSA program and we thank you for your support of Local Food and Farmers. Each drop-off site will have a designated Site Coordinator for the 20-week season. This person or family will assist with transportation and distribution of shares, and will also serve as an 'Ombudsman" of sorts to facilitate communication between the NWPAGC, the CSA Manager, and the CSA members.
We thank our returning members from last year, and welcome new members for 2010.
We look forward to providing you with the best in local produce, and we know that you will be pleased with the choice and variety offered by our CSA program!
