Winter Market Information
Its time to sign up for Northwest PA Growers Winter Market!
The farmers and producers of Northwest PA Grower’s Co-op are looking forward to providing you with local, naturally-raised produce, dry beans, meats, eggs, and raw milk and cheese through the winter months. This year, Winter Market members will again be able to place weekly orders on-line at the Northwest PA Growers website: www.nwpagrowers.com
The DATE AND TIME have changed, though. Pick–up is scheduled for Wednesdays, from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at the Macoskey Center on Harmony Rd. in Slippery Rock. (near the SRU football stadium).
We cannot guarantee that all products will be available every week, therefore weekly product offerings may vary due to weather, holidays, transportation issues and other factors affecting the farmers.
We can, however, guarantee high quality, local products and convenient ordering and pick-up systems for you, the consumer.
The $15.00 membership fee enables you to access the password-protected on-line store at the NWPA website. This store is for members only and is not open to the general public. Additionally, members will be able to buy products on the ‘Market Table’ at the pick-up location, ie prepared foods, baked goods, dried herbs and teas. You will also receive an e-newsletter, notification of local events, and recipes.
The ‘Winter Market’ season runs from Nov 4th until May 5th.
It is important to note that fresh greens, especially lettuce, tend to be very limited during January and February, but return to full production in late March and April. In the depths of winter during January and February, other greens are much better adapted to growing in low-light, sub-freezing conditions.
When you join the Winter Market you are not obligated to place an order every week.The WebStore will be ‘open’ on our website from 7:00 a.m. Friday mornings until 9:00 a.m. Monday mornings. Shopping is as simple as ‘point and click’! The webstore software keeps track of your selections, adds up the total, and sends the order for you. Items will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If an item sells out it will be automatically removed from the webstore listing. After you place your order you will receive an automatic order confirmation.
Orders must be paid for at pick-up by cash or check.
The Winter Market Kick-Off Event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 4th at the Macoskey Center from 4:30 – 6:00 pm. This will be a “Indoor Farmers Market”; growers will sell their product directly, refreshments will be served, and a Winter Market representative will be present to answer questions and take applications.
The Winter Market webstore will open for pre-orders on Friday Nov. 6th, with the first pick up slated for Wednesday, Nov 11th.
To join the Winter Market, please complete the attached Membership Form, and mail it to the indicated address along with a check for $15.00 made out to “NWPA Growers Coop”. (or bring it to the Kick Off event on Nov 4th)
Upon receipt of your application and check we will send you the official “Welcome” email document, which contains details about the ordering process. A new ’Winter Market FAQ’ on our website will also help with consumers’ questions.
