2024 CSA Week 17

After weeks of dry, sunny weather, now we're in a rainy gloomy period.  We certainly needed the rain.  We received over 4" of rain at our farm this week, but other farmers farther south didn't get as much.  The coming days promise more.

Some scheduling notes:  I will be off work (and away from email and phone) several days in October:  October 3-5, October 17-19, and October 24-26.  Those Fridays, Autumn will open the store for us, and this newsletter will likely be a joint effort between us.  Plus, I will be extra-busy because my family's seasonal store opens October 10 (more about that in a later blog).  So if you email me, it may take a little longer to respond for the next month.

Payment Plan

The fourth quarter payment is due next week.  If you have a card on file, we will charge that card.  If you don't have a card on file, please look for an email invoice sometime after the first of the month.  It will need to be paid by October 10 to receive your store credit for Week 19.

Recipes

TIP:  Did you know that you can use many squashes interchangeably in recipes?  The each have a slightly different flavor, but if you don't have the squash that the recipe calls for, you can sub another.  For example, I almost always use butternut squash in place of pumpkin in recipes.

TIP:  If you have a high-speed blender, you can puree squash or pumpkin with the seeds and skin to add all those nutrients to your puree.  Then store and zipper bags or containers and freeze for winter use.  I have found that when bagging more liquidy foods like squash or eggs, it's best to use Ziploc brand because they tend to leak less.
