2023 CSA Week 13

We are starting the third quarter of the season. Last week marked halfway! If you're on the quarterly payment plan, I will be processing your third payment this week if you paid by credit card for your initial payment. If you paid by check, I'll send you an invoice and you can either mail a check or pay by card online.

Farm News

Bushel & a Peck Farm: Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to go on vacation. Sure, it's nice to get away and have some time off, but farm work doesn't do itself, and there's so much that needs to be done. However, my husband and I had a wonderful time in Maine. It was the first vacation the two of us have had in 15 years. Our three teens took care of all the animals and did a stand-up job. They were busy from dawn til dusk (or later) every day. Every day cattle and sheep need to be moved to new pasture and water filled. Some of our cattle are currently grazing an hour from our farm, so that's an additional 2 hours of drive time. We also have hundreds of chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys that need fed and watered. Plus collecting eggs and cleaning them. In addition, while we were gone a predator was attacking sheep at one of our farms, so that took a ton of extra time to get it stopped. And they took care of the dogs. The girls also packed your CSA shares on Wednesday morning. They were exhausted by the time we got home, and we're all still playing catch-up with everything that was set aside. But life goes on, and the work waits for the next day.

What are cippolini onions?? They are a small, flat onion that is super sweet and lends well to roasting/caramelizing. Here's an explanation and a recipe.

Crispy Air Fryer Eggplant is great as a side dish, or add marinara sauce and cheese for delicious eggplant parmesan.
